Interest post (week 10)

For my interest post this week I chose to do it on being positive. The reason I chose to do it on this is because I think a having a positive attitude in life can make a huge difference. Honestly, sometimes I'm not the most positive person in the world and sometimes I need a little refresher. Being positive is one of the greatest things you can do for yourself! Being positive can help you be more healthy, help with stress and just plain make you happier. Having a positive attitude is all about a state of mind. I use to be constantly negative. I would always just plain dislike everything in life. But you know what? One day I woke up and decided you know what I'm going to happy today. I decided to be positive because I was sick of being miserable. And from that day forward I always try to be more positive about any situation. And since then my life has got a whole lot better. And yes I know that just because you decide to be positive doesn't mean your automatically happy. And sure there might be a lot going on in your life right now but having a negative attitude isn't going to help you. I know sometimes life is hard to deal with but the biggest advice you can use in my opinion is being positive. And that's why I decided to do my interest post on being positive this week because having the right attitude in life has helped me so much and hopefully it will help you too.

Second Blog Post Reflection (Second Project)

Ok, so as you know we've started a new genius hour project for this semester and I picked "How to get a job." And my last update said that I was just finishing up on doing some resume research. Well what I've completed so far since that is all of my research. I finished my resume research and my interview research! I also figured out what my official end presentation is going to be. It's going to be a video of me doing a "interview." So, what I'm going to do next is make a short script for my interview video and get all my supplies together for it. I'm really enjoying this project so far!

Interest post (week 9)

For this weeks interest post I decided to do it on music. The reason I picked music as my interest post is because music has been a huge impact in my life. Music means a lot to me, and yeah I know it's pretty much what everyone says but it's true. Many people say that music is an escape from what's going on in their life and I completely agree. I don't know how many times, I've drowned myself in music just to try and forget about what's happening around me for a while. Another thing music is used for is inspiration. I believe that music can inspire anyone. I think it can make you think deeper and focus so much more. I also believe music can tell you a lot about someone. Depending on what their favorite song is or maybe their favorite lyric. It can help you figure out what they've been through and maybe what their going through right now. I just basically love everything about music. I love the way people get lost when listening, lost while dancing, or maybe lost while they sing to a song. It can show you so much about a person. An example I can use is my brother. My brother loves music so much. And when he finally gets lost in it after a rough night he forgets everything. He'll just start to sing or rap to it and you can see all the stress leave him. He puts every emotion into whatever he's singing/rapping to and it just makes me so happy. The way he expresses himself to music is absolutely amazing, its shows me that music can be so real and raw to someone. I'm sorry it was kind of scattered, but music is just so important to so many people, myself and included and that's why I decided to do my interest post on it this week,

Interest post (week 8)

For this weeks interest post I decided to do it Tumblr. I picked this for my topic because I absolutely love Tumblr and I want to try to show you why. One of the many reasons why I love Tumblr is because you can just be you on there! I'm not even exaggerating either. I know it's a cliche to say that but I'm dead serious. You can literally be the weirdest person ever and people will love you. No matter who you are, people on Tumblr will accept you and love you! In fact, one of the very first things I noticed when going on Tumblr is all the acceptance and openness. The second reason I love the Tumblr is the fact that you can speak your mind. Now this is one of the main reasons why I fell in love with Tumblr. When I started to notice all these bizarre and crazy text posts and that so many people around the world actually agreed and shared their own personal opinions I was shocked. Everything you don't want to say in public or that's on your mind and you think you're the only one that thinks that people post on Tumblr. It was just so refreshing to see that I wasn't alone with these weird thoughts. And it's not just the weird thoughts either, it could be anything. It could be poetry, stories, or even just a sentence and people all around the world will comment or message you. No matter what's on your mind, you can post. The third reason I fell in love with Tumblr is because it's like every other social network put together. It's like Twitter, Blogging and Facebook put together. It's one big social hub! I could go on there and find a new upcoming artist all the way to a funny cat gif. And if you don't think that's awesome then I don't know what to tell you. And the final reason why I fell in love with Tumblr is because of what I learned from it. To be honest, I didn't really know much about equality and culture before Tumblr. But when I joined, I learned so much and I'm still learning. There's so many people out there with opinions that have completely changed my perspective on life. It's amazing. And everyday when I get to go on, I learn even more and my views on everything changed again. And that's why I love Tumblr.

First Blog Post Reflection (Second project)

So recently we've started a new project for our Independent studies class. The new project I decided to do is "How to get a job." I picked this project because I found it very interesting and plus I would really like to learn about this type of stuff. I mean eventually I'll have to learn how to do a resume and how to do an interview. I guess both of them are pretty straight forward, but I would like to be prepared and know what to say when it does happen. So anyways, so far I've only been doing research on resumes. Basically, finding out how to make them and different kinds. I think I'm going to do a little bit more research on them and then start to research about what to do in an interview. So yeah, that's basically it so far. I'm really excited about this project!

My inspiration post (week 7)

For my inspiration post this week I decided to it on friendship. The reason I picked this topic for my blog post this week is because I absolutely love all of my friends and our friendships. And when I couldn't think of an inspiration post for this week, I thought about how great my friendships are. Everything about friendship is inspiring to me, it's one of the most important things in life. Friendships are something very special you share between someone you truly care about. It's a connection you just can't quite explain. Friendship is when someone is there for you. Someone who makes sure you're ok and who checks up on you. And just to know that there's something like friendship in this world, it makes me feel happy. To know that I have friends out there who I can count on. It just makes me feel inspired to create more friendships. It makes me want to try to make more of these connections even though I'm a really shy person. It makes me want to become a more outgoing person and get out of this box I put myself into. And you know, for me to actually want to be more outgoing and get out there, that's pretty inspiring for myself. So yeah, hopefully I can be more outgoing and create more great friendships in the future. And that's why I find friendship so inspiring and why I decided to do friendship for my inspiration post this week.

My inspiration post (week 6)

For my inspiration post this week, I chose to do it on Marilyn Monroe. The reason I chose this topic is because over the last few days I've noticed a lot of people on Facebook saying Marilyn Monroe shouldn't be a role model. That she was nothing a woman who slept around and was just another "dumb blonde" on T.V. And to be honest, it kind of bothered me. The fact that some people can go around saying she's a bad role model to women even if they didn't really do their research. So I thought that I should make my inspiration post on it because, in my opinion, Marilyn Monroe really was an inspiration! The rumors of her sleeping around to get jobs is completely false. People who have worked with her have always said Marilyn never slept around to better her career or gain jobs. Maurice Zolotow's, a show business biographer, once said "Marilyn never submitted to sexual advances even if they could help her career." She also refused to date people for publicity just because 20th Fox Century wanted her to. In fact at one point in her career, Monroe ended up leaving 20th Fox century because she refused to let them treat her badly by paying her a tiny wage. Did you know that Marilyn's wage was only a fraction of her male co-stars salary even though she was the lead? Marilyn also became one of the first women to start her own independent production company. Even though, in some ways Marilyn did get portrayed a certain way in movies, it wasn't who she really was. She had a personal library filled with over 500 books because she was so passionate about learning and educating herself. Marilyn was also sexually abused a child and then went on to encourage the sexual liberation of women in the 1950's. Later on, she became one of the first people to openly talk about sexual abuse. Marilyn Monroe did so many things in her life that was inspiring, that it's hard to sum it all up in one blog post. I mean, did you know that Marilyn supported civil and gay rights? And that she supported many charities such as the Milk Fund, March of Dimes, and the Arthritis & Rheumatism foundation! Marilyn donated time and money into everyone of those charities. And not to stop there, Marilyn also visited orphanages and hospitals on her own time just to surprise the people there. Marilyn Monroe did so many things that were inspiring and I personally think she was inspirational and a role model. So yeah, there's a couple of reasons why I chose to do Marilyn Monroe for my inspiration post for this week.

My inspiration post (week 5)

For this week the topic I chose is forgiveness. The reason I chose this topic is because I find it so inspirational. It's kind of hard to put into words but forgiveness is one of the most inspiring things out there. Just think about it! Forgiveness is an extremely hard thing to do for yourself. The thing about forgiveness is that it's about letting go. It's about finally letting yourself get rid of all that stress, even if you know that person or whoever doesn't deserve it. But that's the best part, it's not about them. Forgiving makes us let go of our anger. To finally let go of our need to hurt, teach a lesson and our need to harm this person. The thing about forgiveness is by choosing to forgive what happen we’re letting go of something that hurt us. We're letting go of the need for an apology and of the need for this person to change. Forgiving is us freeing ourselvesForgiveness doesn't mean forgetting, though. It doesn't mean giving the person we've forgiven the same label that they had before. It means we moved on. We healed from the hurt that has happened to us. And that to me, is one of the most inspirational things you can do, not for someone else, but for yourself. Sorry if that didn't make much sense, but it's really hard for me to put this in words. So yeah, that's my inspiration post this week!

Blog Reflection Post (Part 2)

My project on emotional triggers is going good. I'm still researching a little bit, but so far I have everything I need. I found some great resources and got a lot of the information I needed. One of my main concerns the last time I did a Blog Reflection post was on how people deal with emotional triggers and how you can get through them. Well, after some research I found my answer! So there's some progress. I also found a way I'm going to present my project. I plan on doing a video of me interviewing people about emotional triggers. I'm hoping to find out, if these people do have emotional triggers, how they worked through them or if they're still doing trying to. So basically, a variety of questions. I am, of course, going to be making it completely anonymous. So yeah, I have all my information, I have my camera and I have volunteers. All I really have to do is get a couple more supplies and I'll be ready to start my interviews.  So, my project is doing good so far, excited to get started on filming!

My inspiration post (week 4)

For my inspiration post this week, I decided to do it on the internet. I know the topic of "internet" doesn't sound to inspiring but hear me out. I get that the internet doesn't exactly give off a good vibe, but really think about it. Personally, I think the internet is great. I mean I see how it can be very dangerous place, but that's not all of it. The internet has given me a lot, and I know that might sound pretty pathetic, but it's not. The internet has taught me so many weird and wonderful things. It's taught me about happiness, life and art. But the thing I find most inspiring about the internet is the community. There's a lot of different people and groups on here but if you find the right one where you can fit in, it can be a great place. For example, Tumblr. I absolutely love Tumblr, it's one of my favorite sites. I can be completely in tears one minute and the moment I go on there, I can't help but smile. Tumblr is a pretty crazy place, you can bring up pretty much any topic and people will give you their opinions or even make a couple of jokes with you. Sure, there are rude people on there, but there's always going to be those type of people in life, you just have to ignore them. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that you can be yourself on the internet. You don't have to hide or pretend to be someone else, you can just be you. And best of all? People will accept you, in fact you'll probably, most likely, find others just like you. And I find that pretty darn inspiring. Also, you can find inspiration on the internet. There's so much to learn and see. And the internet can help you with that. You can find art, poetry, advice, help and support on here. Anything you can think of, you can find on here. And I love it. There's so many helpful people on here, and I can't help but think it's inspiring! So that's why I decided to do my inspiration post this week on the internet. So, there it is, my inspiration post for this week.

Gravity Movie Review Post

Recently, my class watched the movie, "Gravity" and we have to write about the resilience and strength in the movie. In the movie I thought there was plenty of resilience. If you don't know what resilience is, it's when someone overcomes an obstacle in life. In the movie, I think there's resilience everywhere, especially with Sandra Bullock's character. One thing that surprised me during the movie is the amount of resilience her character had. The fact that her daughter had died, and she overcame that and went on to become an astronaut is what really surprised me. Another challenge she faced in the movie was the thought of giving up. She could've easily have given up at any moment, it would have been simple. But she didn't, so that was pretty cool of her. She overcame that challenge by believing in herself and finally taking a chance. This made her character a lot stronger because it taught her that sometimes in life you have to take chances and have confidence in yourself. Although a lot of these challenges in the movie helped make her stronger and have more resilience, she was still had a lot of resilience before. Some of her characteristics helped her throughout her journey in space for example, her attitude. Her attitude was a big factor for her character that helped her a lot. Attitude matters a lot in life and can affect you in absolutely anyway you can think of. I mean, if you keep a negative or whiny attitude your obviously going to have a less chance of succeeding and reaching your goal. Sandra's character had a positive attitude throughout the entire journey and I personally think that helped her overcome a lot of the challenges in the movie. Overall, I think the "Gravity" sent a good message to it's audience about resilience and strength.

My inspiration post (Week 3)

My inspiration post this week, isn't about something that happened in the Olympics, the news or even on T.V. This week, I decided to do my inspiration post on little things that happened throughout the week/weekend. Throughout the week, I've been getting rides to school because my auntie and grandmother have been going to a workshop. And throughout this week they've been taking me to timmies just because. And while we went there, it was always hectic, almost everyone there was always in a rush to get somewhere. Which is understandable because it was the morning. But what I noticed was the fact that even though everyone was in a rush, they still had the manners to say please and thank you. In fact, almost everyone there would say please and thank you for their coffee, bagel or whatever they ordered. And people even held the door for others, even if they had to get somewhere. Or even if they already had their hands full of coffee they would still hold the door open with their back or foot. I know it's not exactly a big deal, but I find it extremely inspiring because even though people had their own stuff to do or was in a hurry they still took that little moment out of their day to do something nice. And, that made my day and would inspire me to do something nice throughout that day. So, even though this weeks inspiration post wasn't about something big that happened in the news or was on T.V, I personally think it's just as inspiring as anything else.

Blog Reflection Post.

For my project, I chose to do Emotional Triggers, and I learned a lot this week on it. An emotional trigger is something that can make you remember a memory or flashback. It can take a person back to that very moment of their trauma. Triggers can happen at any moment of the day. They can affect you with any type of your senses such as sight, sound, smell, touch and taste. These emotional triggers could cause any type of symptom. These triggers could cause any type of emotion you could think of. Emotional triggers can make your emotional balance turn upside down within seconds. These emotions could affect you physically, mentally and spiritually. But, there is something that you can do about these emotional triggers. You can work through them if you choose too, and by working through them, you could better your life. So far I've learned plenty on emotional triggers but, I'm still researching on how you can work through these triggers and the brain science behind them. So, that's all for this week, I hope to find more information on my topic next week.

My inspiration post (Week 2)

What I found inspiring this week were the two Durfour-Lapointe sisters in the Olympics. The two sisters competed against one another in the freestyle skiers competition. After the competition they both had to wait for the results together. What I thought was inspiring was the fact that they had to compete  against each other but they didn't let it tear them a part as a family. Instead they wished each other luck and hoped for each other to win. I find that really amazing and extremely inspiring, it shows that family is more important than anything. So, that's why I picked the Durfour-Lapointe sisters as my inspiration post this week.

My inspiration post (Week 1)

For my inspiration post, I picked Canada's response to Russia's anti-LGBT law. It's pretty sad that in this century there are still countries out there that discriminate against LGBT communities. So, basically what the situation is, is that Russia doesn't allow gays to be themselves and kicked LGBT members out of the Olympics. Canada decided to respond to them, by posting a LGBT video about the Olympics. I picked this for my inspiration post because I think it's so great! Like this whole thing, just makes me more proud to be Canadian. The fact, that Canada actually sent a message and stood up for the LGBT community, says so much. It just inspires everyone out there, that's it's perfectly ok to be gay.

Gay history in Canada

History of gay rights in Canada goes all they back to when civilizations were first discovered. The first known evidence of gay history in Canada were The Two Spirited people. The Two Spirited people were aboriginals back in the 1400’s and later. In their culture, two spirited people were classified as a people who were of two genders, spiritually and sexually. The Two spirited people were the first known evidence of gay history in Canada.

Gay history rights in Canada have changed and reached new goals throughout the years. One of the first important dates in gay history happened in 1977. In 1997, Quebec became the first province in Canada to include “sexual orientation” in its human rights legislation. The next event in gay history in Canada happened in 1978. In 1978, the federal government amended Canada’s Immigration Act, removing a ban on homosexuals as immigrants. The next milestone in gay history in Canada was in 1982, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms was added to the Constitution. In 1992, the federal government lifted its ban on homosexuals in the military, allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly and live with their partners on military base. Next, in 1999, the Supreme Court of Canada ruled that gay and lesbian couples should have the same rights and benefits as common-law couples with regard to pensions, income taxes and other matters like that. The federal government recognized such rights in 2000. In 2004 the federal government extended protection against gays and lesbians. Which means it was now an offence to spread hatred against others based on their sexual orientation. In 2005, Canada legalized gay marriage nationwide. Gay history rights in Canada has changed and has reached new goals throughout the years.
